Description

There is not a day that goes by without discussion of Muslims and Islam dominating global headlines. How much of these discussions are generated by Muslims themselves?

The Harvard University Club of Ottawa presents a panel discussion entitled “Canadian Muslims: Faith and Perspectives”. Muslims have a vibrant and longstanding history in Canada and share with fellow Canadians of all backgrounds in a common experience of Canadian society and culture. The event will provide an introduction and exploration of the Islamic tradition, featuring a discussion about the variety of lived experiences of Canadian Muslims, a Mosque tour and refreshments. Panelists will answer FAQs, share personal experiences, discuss current challenges, and answer questions from participants.

Panelists include:
  • Amira Elghawaby, Communications Director, National Council of Canadian Muslims
  • Imam Sikander Hashmi, Imam of the Kanata Muslim Association & member of Canadian Council of Imams
  • Dr. Monia Mazigh,  author, novelist and a human rights advocate & Lecturer at Carleton University

Given that the event is being held in a Mosque, we wish to remind guests that entering the worship area will require appropriate dress attire (no head scarf required) and the removal of footwear. The event is free admission but attendees are asked to register at:
